Abstract
Space is an integral part of human life that is used as a place to do all kinds of activities in attempt to maintain its survival. Space from Historical studies is defined as the place where historical events occur. Realizing sustainable spatial utilization requires spatial planning that can harmonize the natural, artificial environment and can provide protection against space functions. Spatial planning regulates the existence of protected areas of cultural heritage and science. Protected area is a geographical space unit that has a function as a location for building the results of high-value human culture and can be utilized for the development of science.
Bondowoso is one of regency in East Java Province which has uniqueness from its historical perspective. This area has a lot of heritage sites, especially those from the megalithic era. Based on archive from histories and antiquities division within the bureau of education and culture in 2017, recorded the number of sites across Bondowoso reached 62 sites and 1220 cultural heritage objects. Sites and cultural heritage objects includes batu kenong, beto labeng, sarcophagus, menhir and dolmen.
The purposes of this research are to determine the type of megalithic cultural heritage in Bondowoso and analyze the distribution and its spatial relationship. Spatial archeology method has been used in the study, meanwhile district scope for its analyses. The results showed that 16 out of 23 districts have cultural heritage areas. There are 7 districts where no megalithic sites which are Botolinggo , Jambesari, Pakem, Prajekan, Sempol, Tamanan, and Tenggarang. Those districts are also possible for heritage site finding, so further research need to be conduct.
